RIVERS STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY SCREEN AND CONFIRM EIGHT COMMISSIONERS

Rivers State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed eight Commissioner designates as members of the State Executive Council.
This is sequel to a letter from Governor Siminalayi Fubara and read by the Speaker, Victor Oko-Jumbo on the floor of the House requesting that nominees be screened and confirmed by the State Assembly.
They are Prince Charles Bekee, Collins Onunwa, Solomon Eke, Basoene Joshua Benibo and Dr. Peter Medee.
Others are Elloka Tasie Amadi, Tambari Sydney Gbara and Dr. Ovy Ortluideye Chinedum Chukwuma.
The nominees while fielding questions from lawmakers said they would bring their wealth of experience to bear in the administration of Governor Fubara to take it to an enviable height.
Solomon Eke, Basoene Jushua Benibo, Dr. Peter Medee and Prince Charles Bekee in their separate responses said they would bring value and transformation into the system.
Commencing debate on the screening, the leader of the House, Sokari Goodboy pleaded with members to confirm the nominees since most of them have served in various capacities in the state and moved a motion for closure of debate which was seconded by the Deputy Speaker, Adolphus Orubionimigha.
The Speaker, Victor Oko-Jumbo based on the motion divided the House through a voice note and members unanimously voted for their confirmation.
He however, used the opportunity to commend the Governor of Rivers State for his achievements so far in the state, stressing that he has carried out laudable projects that traversed the state.
He also called on the Governor to remain focused and continue to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people assuring him of the Assembly’s support in ensuring that he has an unhindered tenure.
Assembly correspondent, Ijeoma Tubosia reports that the house adjourned sitting to Tuesday next week.
The House leader Sokari Goodboy who spoke to members of the Assembly Press Corps shortly after the sitting said the Executive Arm of Government needs to be filled.
